Fannie and Freddie were just given an unlimited supply of money from the US government and I suspect this has something to do with loan modification write downs. I don't think we'll know for a bit more time but I agree, they cannot afford not to help.

I think in the future we'll see a new wave of modifications that will allow principal write downs.
